Superstar on the Ground

Superstar on the Ground

Db collabs with a wonderful person.
This week we announced a collab with Marcelo Vieira and put this type of info in the press release: Brazilian soccer star on Real Madrid 4-time UEFA Champions League winner 6-time consecutive best left-back in the world   We could have added that he has 45M followers on IG, because Marcelo only has superstar stats. But the problem with superstar stats, and a public persona, is that they often disguise the truth — that the hero is actually entitled, spoiled and self-centered. And can you blame them? Their talent, fans and handlers put them on such a high pedestal that it’s nearly impossible to get down, lest they break an ankle from the fall. Which makes it all the more impressive when a superstar is humble. Grounded. Kind. By all accounts, Marcelo is this type of superstar. Marcus Olsson, Db’s creative guru who went to Marcelo’s house in Madrid to shoot this campaign, told me, “He’s just the friendliest and happiest dude on the planet. No ego there at all.” Rags to riches, no ego. Constant outside pressure, only smiles. On the third day of the shoot, unprompted, Marcelo gave Marcus a signed game jersey. Thoughtful. It’s hard to package this stuff in a press release, but it’s what matters.
